Course overview

A workshop designed for staff working for Sunderland City Council and Unison Members. Useful if you are new to working within the UK, or if you work with team members who are from outside of the UK. This is an engaging, fun, 2-hour interactive workshop. The aim is to promote a fulfilling, positive workplace experience through reducing fears and cultural barriers. You will learn useful tips to help promote better understanding and clear communication with your colleagues. Delivered by a tutor who has personal experience of adapting to life and work within the UK and the challenges and rewards that can be brought by the experience.

Course description

The workshop will be face to face, and you will have a chance to meet and study alongside other colleagues. You will have the support of an experienced tutor who understands the practical and emotional issues faced by re-locating to a new country.

For learners who are new to living and working in the UK, it will introduce you to the culture of the UK. It is intended to aid you to understand work-related attitudes and behaviors and smooth your integration into a workplace environment.

For learners who have been born in the UK, it will enable you to consider the challenges, differing communication styles and expectations of colleagues who have come from outside of the UK.

In addition, the session will provide a positive environment for discussion and the sharing of ideas with colleagues to enhance communication and understanding within the workplace.

What financial support is available?
