Course overview

This course is only for people living in Essex. Are you worried about being safe online? This course looks at ways to keep safe online including how to avoid online scams and delivery fraud. We focus on what you need to consider being safe when selling your own items online and also covering topics such as taking photographs and pricing appropriately. We also look at some marketing techniques that are used to encourage people to make a purchase and how to spot genuine adverts from the scam ones. Your rights as a buyer forms part of the course as does how to work out if something is a genuine bargain or not.

Course description

This course is only for residents of Essex. In this short 4 hour course, we will be looking at a number of factors associated with being safe online. This course focuses on ways you can keep your personal information safe when shopping online and we will work together to identify how some online scams work and what to do to avoid falling victim to them. We also look at how to sell your own items online, including discussion of recent changes to the law around taxation. You will work with your fellow learners to write a description for an item to sell and discuss what you need to consider when photographing the item. We will look at a few common marketing techniques and how to tell real ads from fake ones. Some basic maths will be covered relevant to this course giving you the opportunity to refresh or develop your skills in this area in a safe, supportive environment and helping you to determine if something you see advertised online is a genuine bargain or not.

This is a multiply Essex course only for residents of Essex aged 19 and over.
