Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.
Course overview
Course description
In the UK one in six people have some degree of hearing loss. This means that you are likely to come into daily contact with people who are deaf or deafblind.
This short course is designed for learners who wish to increase their awareness of deafness. The benefits of attending this course are:

understand how to make information accessible
develop an understanding of the barriers deaf people face
support hard-of-hearing colleagues with aids and adaptations
understand BSL as a native language
engage with interpreters and make use of the Access to Work scheme
provide equal opportunities for deaf employee
Attending this course alongside the introduction to British Sign Language course will increase your understanding and basic knowledge of British Sign Language.
Our experienced tutor has delivered BSL and Lipreading courses and will be able to advise you on the next steps if you wish to learn more about deaf awareness and develop you lipreading or British Sign Language skills.
