Course description

Welcome to a day of deep exploration into the cinematic and literary masterpiece that is "The Third Man" by Carol Reed and Graham Greene. This day invites participants to engage with both the film and Greene's original screenplay/novella, examining their interconnectedness and the nuances of adaptation.

Throughout the day, we will dissect "The Third Man" by viewing the film in sections, pausing to analyse its relationship with Greene's text. Delving into the historical context of post-war Vienna, we'll uncover the significance of the setting and the impact of location filming, shedding light on the film's authenticity and atmosphere.

In addition to exploring the aesthetic aspects, we'll probe into the complexities of literary adaptation for the screen.
