If you wonder how people uncover information in the public interest that would usually remain in the dark, this course on investigative journalism is for you. on this course you will learn how investigative journalists conduct their investigations and how they report them especially if they would otherwise likely go unreported. Alongside this you will also debate the best ways to plan and investigative story and the sources which may be available to do this, as well as getting a brief introduction to the legal and regulatory aspects of journalism. No previous experience of the study of journalism is necessary. Everyone is welcome to join this fascinating course.

Course description

This course is a detailed exploration of how journalists uncover information in the public interest which would otherwise remain in the dark. You will learn how investigative journalist go about their investigations, analysing the skills they need when they are looking into something in the public interest. You will explore ways of reporting and editing these stories, discussing how a journalist might write a story which might otherwise go unreported. Our experienced tutor will enable you to become familiar with terms of investigative journalism and use them in your discussion; debate how to find and plan an investigative story and evaluate the sources which might be available to do this. The tutor will also give you a brief introduction to some of the legal and regulatory aspects of journalism. You will be encouraged to contribute to whole class and small group discussions in a relaxed and comfortable environment. If you have always wondered how investigative journalists undertake their work and make astonishing revelations, this course is for you! No previous experience of the study of journalism is necessary. Everyone is welcome to join this fascinating course.
