Claudia, aged 36 came to the UK from Romania to find work and a better life for her children. She came to Sheffield and wanted to learn English to help her find a job – as a single parent she wanted to give her and her family the best opportunities.
She joined the entry one classes at St Mary’s before completing her entry two in writing and next term she is aiming to start entry three speaking and listening to continue her progress.
The courses have improved her English and improved her opportunities in her career at a food packing factory. She now works in the office due to the improvement in her language skills as well as on the production line – this has enabled her to receive better pay and opened up her options for progression.
She made friends on the course and also in the community which has helped her confidence.
Claudia said of her journey: “I am looking forward to continuing to develop my English skills as I continue to progress through the levels, and I am really grateful for the opportunities this has given me to progress at work and to earn more money.”
