An exhibition of works from WEA Art Workshops Isle of Wight is currently open at Parkside Pavillion, East Cowes. The exhibition provides an opportunity to showcase a selection of work created by a group of both beginners and experienced artists from their very first steps in the process of mark making onwards. The results are many individual and inspirational pictures.  Anne Toms - former Director at Quay Arts – helped to select the work for the exhibition at Quay Arts. Individual artists are not credited in the exhibition to reflect the group nature of the work.

The Art Workshops have brought together a diverse group of budding artists and developed into an imaginative and cooperative art group. The students are from very diverse backgrounds, age ranges, and at various stages of artistic development. The class includes single mothers, widows, retired professionals and younger women working part-time - all looking for new experiences and to explore their creativity.

The Art Workshops are about more than just about Art. A few students have experienced drastic life situations and trauma. The workshop is about belonging and socialising, and the rediscovery of the individual self through art. The students have gained self-confidence and the enjoyment of their own creativity.

The workshops are led by practising artist Mary Clemmensen who has a vast range of experience working, teaching and exhibiting for 20 years.

If you would like to join the workshop, they run on Tuesday or Friday mornings and there is always space for new students. The Autumn term’s theme was Drawing, this term’s theme is Painting and in the Spring (after Easter) it will be Mixed Media. Please contact Mary Clemmensen: marymaryclemmense[at]mac[dot]com.
