Passing it to the next generation

Donna has lived with physical disability from birth. She suffered from bullying, negative attitudes and discrimination which severely impacted her confidence and self-esteem. Donna has always had a love of writing and has found that it has helped her document her life and deal with the challenges and labels she has to deal with as a disabled mum.

Donna was timid and clearly lacked confidence in herself, and in her writing ability. Donna is now able to read confidently in front of the group - you can literally hear the new-found strength in her work and voice. She has become an incredible role model for her daughter, Georgia and is sharing her love of writing with her, which has had a positive impact on her school work.

I’ve used my writing ability to deal with life as a disabled mum and now feel I can overcome any challenges I face.

I’ve even passed it on to my daughter and she is doing much better at school. Seeing me write and read poetry in open mic events has given her an interest in writing poetry. She has written a poem about me. When she gave it to me it brought tears to my eyes.
