WEA wins online stewardship award
WEA has won the best online stewardship award at Fundraising Everywhere’s Charity Virtual Events Awards 2021.
The award, voted by the public, recognises the incredible impact the charity made with its online member lecture series, particularly through the pandemic which became a lifeline to the WEA membership, many of whom are older people and were shielding.
Originally starting in November 2019 every Thursday evening WEA members join an hour-long online lecture. Each week had a different topic presented by an expert in their field, hosted by a WEA staff member. The participant numbers soon started soaring and the programme continues to attract members to this day.
Celebrating great charities doing exceptional things to change the world, the Charity Virtual Event Awards 2021 saw 15 causes shortlisted across 5 categories and attracted over 9,000 votes from charity fans all the way from the US to Australia.
Susannah Forland, Head of Fundraising, Membership and Volunteering, who manages the programme said: “We are delighted with the recognition by the public. Our digital offer has been critical during the pandemic and these lectures were developed to complement our nationwide online programme for our membership audience. We are committed to getting adults involved in lifelong learning and this member lecture series helps to showcase our wealth of courses.”
