WEA response to Friends Centre
Simon Parkinson, WEA CEO, commented: “The WEA and the Friends Centre share a long history of engaging with the most disadvantaged in society. The Friends Centre worked in partnership with the WEA for many years and they will be truly missed.
“Due to the closure we are really concerned that local residents will no longer be able to benefit from the breadth of adult learning offered by the Friends Centre in Brighton. We know from our own experience just how important adult learning is for the most vulnerable in society. It is particularly challenging now, as we are dealing with the impact of Covid-19 to the local economy and to residents’ health and wellbeing."
The WEA is currently offering ESOL and health and wellbeing provision in Hove and following the Covid-19 lockdown have developed an extensive programme of learning which will be delivered online.
