Delight for WEA Employee Awarded MBE

Rehana Mohammed, an Area Education Manager at The WEA was awarded an MBE for services to the education of marginalised women in Rochdale and Oldham during an Investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Friday 7th December. She was presented with the prestigious honour by Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

Rehana said of the day: “It was a dream come true, a memory that I will never forget. A day where I was given the opportunity to step up and gain an award which so many individuals over the last 20 years helped me to achieve.

“Walking in through the doors of the palace was an incredible moment the place was truly stunning and lived up to my expectations. I was asked to go to another part of the palace where I met the other proud award winners. Listening to all the amazing stories I realised how much great work is taking place all over the UK.

“When I walking up to collect the award it then hit me how big this moment was for not just me but my family, friends and also all the women in Rochdale and Oldham especially.

“Prince William said to me ‘God bless the women like you’ and it made me emotional but I managed to hold myself together.

“What a day, what a moment, what an experience. I will never forget this and also keep in my heart for ever. I would like to thank everyone that has helped me over the last 20 years, especially my family, friends and of course my lovely team at the WEA."
