Rachael Clark, Area Education Manager

Hello, I'm Rachael.

What do I do?

I'm the Area Education Manager for Derby and Derbyshire. I joined the WEA in September 2017.  I have spent most of my career in adult education, I worked as a tutor teaching Basic Skills and managed large community developments in Nottingham, developing provision for mental health amongst other things. I have been fortunate enough to work with colleges, local authorities and volunteer sectors across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Why do I do what I do?

I love working with tutors, partners and inner city areas. I am passionate about helping people understand and reach their aspirations through education. I really believe that education is the door to change!

What else do I do?

I'm really lucky to live in a semi-rural area which means I get to walk and run in the hills - I'm a country bumpkin at heart! I volunteer with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and for the Arkwright Society because I feel strongly about conservation. I am really hands on and brave, I'll chop down trees, hang off steep riverbanks and repair ancient walls - when it comes to the countryside there is no job too big.

Something else?

Many moons ago, I was a national 10 mile cycling time trial champion. Like many, my life has taken many new paths. I'm a lifelong learner too, I have qualifications in plumbing, plastering and sports massage.

Oh and I'm also a sessional life model! I told you I was brave!
