Joy Turnbull, Education Support Assistant

My name is Joy, I'm the Education Support Assistant at WEA Derby.

What do I do?

I started working at WEA Derby in 2016, and before that I worked at Derby College. I have spent most of my life in education. As an Education Support Assistant I am here to help, I assist on student enrolment and assessment days and help tutors complete paper work, as well as making sure the whole of Derby hears about our amazing courses each term.

Why do I do what I do?

I love coming to work every day. I feel very lucky to work at The Mill in Derby, it's such a lovely building with a lot of character and we host courses there, so I get to meet our students regularly. The students make my job an absolute pleasure.

What else do I do?

Outside of work I have too many interests to list. Since a child, I have always loved making things and I still spend a lot of time crafting. At the moment I am working on a HUGE cross-stitch picture of an MC Escher drawing - it is a monochrome monstrosity. I also love music and I sing in a Rock Choir so I am in my element with our crafting and opera courses this term.

Something else?

I know all the words to Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and I am a massive fan of The Proclaimers.
