WEA courses

This is an ten-week course for both beginners and experienced learners. The course aims to facilitate individual learners with their camerawork. A key goal is to give learners the confidence to experiment and adapt their practice, using the camera on manual, deploying the ‘Exposure Triangle’ of aperture, shutter-speed, and ISO to cope with different lighting situations and to substitute with artificial lighting and flash where appropriate. Digital cameras are complex pieces of kit with increasingly complex functionality and capabilities. Today’s digital photographers have an amazing array of possibilities at their fingertips, and this course aims to instil learners with the confidence to try new techniques and understand the need for technical research online and trial and error in the practical learning process. Learners should anticipate the need for some walking and/or travel to different photographic venues. The Donnison School will also provide an audience for the creative output of the group and will help them to appreciate the value of their work as their enthusiasm and interest in photography broadens.

This course is for those who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of how to access a variety of services within the UK. Ever wondered who,what and where you can get support from to complete forms such as housing applications, how to make a Universal Credit claimandmuch more. This course may lead to further training support to develop your English skills to build confidence and knowledge. This course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority.

This course is for people who live in Warrington who are beginners in learning English. It is a face-to-face course. The course will help you to start using English every day ready to apply for work in the UK. It will also improve your confidence to speak to people in English in other everyday situations, like going to the doctor, shopping, using public transport and speaking to your child’s teachers. You will start to learn some of the words and phrases needed to feel part of your community and become more independent in your life in the UK.

The course is for learners who need support with English and who want to pass the Driving Theory test. Our course is friendly and a safe environment to ask questions. You will help each other to learn and practice through informal activities and discussions, helping you to develop your understanding and confidence. There will be an enrolment/assessment session on 18th March at 12.30 at Millan Centre, 89 Victor Street. BD9 4RA . This is a women-only centre. You must attend this enrolment session to make sure this is the right course for you. If this is your first WEA course, please bring ID and proof of benefit or low wage if you wish to claim fee waiver. This course is funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

This course is put on in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council and Job Centre Plus. Are you unemployed and looking for work but experiencing mental health issues? These might include, but not be limited to, stress, anxiety, depression, panic attacks or post traumatic stress. This free support programme will help you to cope better with these challenges and discover techniques and strategies to use in every day life. This Makaton course is ideal for you if you want to learn an inclusive communication tool. It can help you interact with people who have speech, hearing, or learning difficulties. This Makaton sign language course covers the essentials of hand signals, fingerspelling, and signing. Learn to introduce yourself. Develop knowledge to be able to sign about basic topics such as numbers and colours.

Incorporated lifeskills useful in the community such as mental health and wellbeing, supporting students to meditate in the class, and learn art techniques to help slow the mind down, focus on detail and express themselves in a creative way. They also learn about listening and following instructions, respecting each other, joining in group discussions and completing group projects.
