Art Practical: Intermediate Watercolours with Mixed Media
Have you learnt the basics of painting in watercolours and are looking for fresh ideas? Do you want to learn and develop the use of watercolours alongside different art media? Why not join this course to explore your own creativity, find inspiration and receive support and encouragement? This ten-week course aims to provide ideas and techniques for working spontaneously and expressively as well finding sources of inspiration and methods for using a variety of drawing and painting media with watercolours. You will also have the opportunity to share ideas and take part in weekly discussions about your artworks with the tutor and other students on the course.

We will explore the meaning and our experience of mental distress from four very different viewpoints; the Biological or medical model, various psychological approaches, the societal perspective and a spiritual one. Each has something to offer, none has the whole story.
This is an introductory level course, so no previous knowledge is assumed. It is suitable for those on a recovery journey, for those seeking to use their own experience to help others or for those simply curious about mental health. It follows on from part 1 but it is not essential to have completed that to do this course.
Teaching is a mix of short presentations of key ideas, challenging open questions and lots of open discussion in small groups online.

Philosophy: Virtue and Vice: The Origin and Nature of Virtue Ethics
Virtue Ethics is one of the three most commonly cited forms of ethical theory, alongside Deontology (Duty-based ethics) and Consequentialism. Unlike other moral theories, however, each of which attempt to formulate criteria or rules for the rightness or wrongness of different actions, Virtue ethics argues that moral judgements are so context-sensitive that such rules are impossible to find. Rather, ‘good’ and ‘bad’ are judgements about the virtue or otherwise of a person’s character and their ability to have sound moral judgement. This course will explore Virtue ethics from its beginnings in the works of Aristotle to its modern renaissance via the works of thinkers from Philippa Foot to Alasdair MacIntyre.
