This art therapy course is designed to support individuals seeking to improve their mental wellbeing, confidence, and self-esteem through creative expression. This is the fifth course of six aimed at Upper Intermediate (B2) level learners of English. This five-week course is for those whose first language is NOT English and we will practice all four major skills in each session to further develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Lessons will be delivered in a face-to-face setting using a range of teacher led and freer interactive activities to develop learners’ proficiency and confidence. In addition to a focus on general pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, students will be encouraged to focus on colloquial English and develop an awareness of the local English being used in their contexts.

This course is designed to help ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners navigate essential public and community services with confidence. Participants will develop practical language skills and knowledge to access healthcare, education, housing, employment, and other key services. Through interactive activities and real-life scenarios, learners will improve their communication skills while gaining a better understanding of their rights and available support systems.

This Art for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course is a 5-week watercolour painting course for anyone wanting to learn or improve their painting skills. You will learn how to draw and paint within a group of like-minded people. Guidance and support are offered throughout the course from our talented tutor, to develop your artistic skills. You will also have the opportunity to connect with and support others in a friendly classroom environment and improve your English conversational skills. No previous skills in watercolours are needed to join this group.

This 2-hour workshop aims to empower Afghan refugee women by increasing awareness of gender equality, rights, and opportunities in the UK. The session takes a culturally sensitive approach, respecting Islamic values and Afghan traditions while introducing UK legal frameworks and social norms.

This course is designed to support individuals transitioning into a new cultural environment by fostering understanding, communication, and confidence in navigating daily life. Through interactive discussions, practical exercises, and real-life scenarios, participants will explore cultural diversity, social norms, and essential skills for effective integration. The course aims to promote inclusivity, cross-cultural communication, and a sense of belonging in a new community.

After Dante and Virgil climb out of Hell, they find themselves at the foot of the high mountain of Purgatory, which they now must climb, encountering those purifying their souls and ready to speak with him on a variety of profound and not-so-profound subjects. It is a relief to leave behind the surly and evil characters we met in the Inferno. We read and discuss three cantos a week, with podcasts to supplement the readings. No previous knowledge is required, though an acquaintance with the Inferno would be helpful.

This ten-week course will present and explore classical music from across the breadth of its development, from early music through to classical music being written right now. Over the course of these sessions we will consider how the subject matter, style and context of composers from a range of diverse backgrounds has contributed to a tradition of music based on the seasons (particularly summer), the evolution of music, as well as considering other genres for reference. We will examine the background of each composer and the individual pieces that we listen to along with reference to quality critical appraisals and notes on each one. The sessions will combine active listening and audio-visual materials with lively, inclusive and hopefully invigorating discussion. Whether you are just coming into the world of classical music (and other genres) or have been listening to it for some time you will be welcome along to these sessions.
