Course overview

This course will be taught face to face in venue at St Mary's Community Centre in Pontefract. The course focusses on looking at unique ways to jazz up or fix clothing using embroidery, with a view to selling our finished items or offering a service to the community whereby clothing can be fixed for a small fee. The focus of the course will be for learners to learn new skills of how to upcycle clothing items with a look at how they can then potentially use these skills to generate income or save on day to day costs whilst also helping the environment.

Course description

This course will teach you all you need to learn in order for you to use embroidery to either add a bit of unique flair to an existing garment, or how to visibly mend a torn or worn garment to extend its life and how we might offer this as a service to the community to help people save money and to reduce the impact of fast fashion on the environment.

The course will be taught face to face by our highly experienced tutor and will focus on looking at unique ways to upcycle existing garments.

You will learn how to mend and repair previously used items and gain a sense of confidence and achievement in your fully revamped item.

You will be guided through the learning activities on the course and fully supported throughout your learning journey.

You will be shown how to record your learning achievements in our online learning platform Canvas and your tutor will assist you in completing the learning outcomes for this fun and engaging course.
