Course overview

This five-week course, where you will develop your understanding of basic first aid. The skills you will learn will increase your confidence when you need to use them. Each week we will have a theme, that builds your knowledge around basic first aid skills, for example bandages and slings, burns and scalds, resuscitation and how to call an ambulance in an emergency. At the end of the course, you will gain some skills and create a flow chart of what to do when there is an accident at KCU.

Course description

This course is for all learners, who would like to gain some more knowledge and understanding of basic first aid.

• Each week we will have a theme, that builds your knowledge around basic first aid skills, for example bandages and slings, burns and scalds, resuscitation and how to call an ambulance in an emergency.

• We will create a flow chart of steps to complete when an accident occurs.

• The course will be delivered by an experienced tutor. During the sessions, there will be plenty of time for discussion, individual and group activities.

Identifying the correct equipment and items for an injury will be focussed upon on this course. You will be offered guidance on how to apply first aid, for example, a burn or scald injury.. Making sure you are safe and those injured will be explored, this includes accidents from the result of a fall. Using the emergency services will be demonstrated and making you aware of the importance of a designated first aider for each establishment and institution.

Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
