Course overview

This course is an introduction to person centred planning, with a focus on creating person centred plans relating to employment. Person centred plans are individualised documents that create a pathway for a person to achieve a goal, in this case finding employment. The plans will be created by students who will learn skills and techniques to make their plans relevant and understandable to them, plans which will be updateable and adaptable. The course will look at a variety of ways of making person centred plans using different media and technology, and how these plans can help learners find meaningful and fulfilling employment.

Course description

This course will look at a variety of methods and processes to allow learners to create their own employment related person centred plans. Many aspects of individual planning will be covered on the course including -

- Life Maps: Where am I from? Where am I now? Where am I going?

- Circles of support: Who have I got to support me to find employment?

- Who am I? What makes me who I am? What are my traits, skills and weaknesses? How can I change or improve these?

- Action Plans: What do I need to do to get what I want? Who can I ask to support me with this?

- One Page Profiles: Creating a quick snapshot of who I am for employers or other people to get to know me quickly

- Compromise: If I can’t get exactly what I want, what's the next best thing? How can I change my expectations and create realistic and achievable goals?

Using a variety of media and technologies this course will teach learners the skills and knowledge required to set up and maintain their individual person centered plans and how to update them and keep them relevant. It will utilise different teaching and learning methods to ensure learners are able to achieve their learning outcomes, create quality person centered plans and are better set up in their personal journeys in the world of employment.
