This mental health first aid course is useful for a wide range of roles where you may be in contact with individuals struggling with mental health.

Course description

You can improve the support you give with effective training in mental health first aid. Help others through stress, burnout, or depression by understanding key mental health issues.

This level 2 Mental Health course prepares you for:

  • mental health support worker roles

  • mental health care assistant roles

  • wider roles in housing, education, or social care

Level 2 mental health courses build on your existing knowledge. We will study definitions of ‘mental health’ and the laws around care provision. Learn about common mental health conditions in the workplace context. Understand how to support and offer care to your colleagues in the workplace environment.

This Mental Health First Aid course can teach you key skills employers look for in roles where you may need to offer support to individuals struggling with mental health.

Learn practical skills for care jobs to support others through mental health difficulties.

After taking this course you can progress to various Level 3 Health and Social Care courses. There are many possible pathways, including:

• Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England

• Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care

• Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia

If you want to work in mentoring, counselling, or social care, this Mental Health Awareness course can teach you crucial employability skills for a range of roles.

Knowing which career option is right for you can be difficult. Our tutors use their life experience to advise you on your options and help you find the right pathway.

You will be assessed using activity plans, reports, and written or oral questioning. Your supportive WEA tutor will help you with any accessibility requirements you may have.

You’ll need access to the internet to take this course as your tutor will upload useful materials to Canvas, the WEA’s digital learning platform. You’ll also participate in video meetings with the group. The WEA is committed to flexible learning and we will do everything we can to make sure you enjoy your learning experience.

Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
