Course overview
Course description
Throughout this 8 session course, you will work in small groups to develop your understanding of a range of topics relevant to working as a teaching assistant in schools. Three school subjects will be looked at: English, maths and science. We will identify some of the topics covered in primary schools in these subjects and consider how to support children to learn effectively. An important part of the course is our focus on barriers to learning and strategies to over these barriers. Other topics include how children learn through play, how to encourage positive behaviour in the classroom and the role of school staff in safeguarding pupils. In the final couple of sessions, we focus on how to enhance your CV and the school application and interview process.
