Level of study
Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.
Course overview
Course description
During this childcare course, you will be able to choose units of study that interest you. Your tutor will be on hand to guide and advise you about the best options for your needs and preferences.
This course teaches you skills and knowledge in three areas: child nutrition, babysitting responsibilities, and child development. You can choose the units that interest you. Some options include safeguarding children, understanding the importance of play, and planning a healthy diet for a child.
This course takes around 160 hours to complete. It is a first step for learners with an interest in working with children up to the age of 5. This introductory child care course prepares you for further study.
This is a nested qualification. This means you can top up to an Award or Certificate by studying some additional units. After this course, you can progress to a Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care.
This course is for anyone who wants to learn about caring for children. If you are unsure whether this course is right for you, our staff would be happy to advise you.
You will produce reports, written questions, and case studies for your portfolio. Your tutor will guide you through the learning process and make sure any accessibility requirements you have are met.
You’ll need access to the internet to take this course as your tutor will upload useful materials to Canvas, the WEA’s digital learning platform.
