Course overview

This course is delivered online in a supportive environment, with the emphasis on developing and improving employability skills for everyday use with the smartphone or tablet. Students will develop and improve digital solutions in accordance with the concept of ‘digital by default/digital assumed’ for everyday tasks associated with employability or volunteering. They will develop and use research skills to explore their own smartphone or tablet features and functions, thereby making digital solutions their first option, their best option and their easiest option for finding information and conducting transactions. They will learn to make the most of their smartphone or tablet.

Course description

This course is delivered online in a supportive environment, with the emphasis on developing and improving mobile digital skills and digital solutions in the context of employability. Students will use their own smartphone or tablet (Apple or Android) in accordance with the concept of ‘digital by default/digital assumed’ for everyday tasks associated with employability or volunteering. They will develop and use research skills and explore their own smartphone or tablet features and functions, thereby making digital solutions their first option, their best option and their easiest option for finding information and conducting transactions using mobile digital technology. Starting with Device Familiarisation, they will explore buttons, switches, ports,

touch screen features and useful settings and preferences. They will conduct job searches and explore volunteering opportunities using web browsers and search engines. They will gain an appreciation of the methods of communication using email, text message, social media, and the gov.uk website for the Universal Credit Journal. They will explore the features and functions of the smartphone camera and conduct practical photography, also in the context of employability.
