Course overview

Yoga is a great way to improve your health and wellbeing. Physically yoga can help you to release tension and improve flexibility, strength and balance. Yoga can also help you to manage stress levels, relax, feel calmer and more focused. This course will enable you to perform a range of foundational yoga poses with comfort and stability to develop strength, flexibility and balance. You will understand how to adapt these poses to suit your body's individual needs. You will learn different breathing techniques to develop awareness of the breath and help focus the mind. This course is suitable for beginners with no experience of yoga or those returning to yoga and wanting to focus on the fundamentals.

Course description

This mat-based course will introduce you to a range of yoga practices such as foundational yoga poses that develop your flexibility, strength and balance. Basic breathing techniques that develop awareness of your breath. Introductory concentration techniques to focus your mind and encourage a calm, meditative state. A variety of relaxation techniques to release tension and help you feel calm.

You will learn how to adapt these yoga poses and practices to suit your individual body's needs. One of the great things about yoga is that it can be adapted to a wide range of abilities.

This is a mat-based class, so learners will need to be able to get up and down off the floor. Learners will need to complete a health questionnaire and participate in a short one to one Zoom session with the tutor in advance of the course starting to ensure the course is suitable for them.

Leaners will need to provide their own non-slip yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing that allows

After this beginner's yoga course you can progress to the Intermediate Yoga course or other "improver" or "mixed ability" yoga classes in your local community or online.

We don't want anything to stand in your way when it comes to bringing Adult learning within reach so if you need anything to support you to achieve your goals then speak to one of our education experts during your enrolment journey. Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
