Course overview

This is a short yoga course with a difference. You will be able to enjoy the calming benefits of yoga by learning to focus on your breathing and connect your breathing with movement. You will also practice a balanced range of yoga postures modified to meet your own needs. The focus of this course will be to develop an understanding of how shapes and angles support us to arrange our body in a well aligned posture. If you lack confidence in maths, this yoga course will help you to realise that you are often using maths skills without realising it, even when practicing yoga! (This course is only available to learners 19+, who do not have GCSE math grades A*-C.)

Course description

You may not realise it but we are often using maths skills when practicing yoga. To improve our alignment and positioning in yoga, when stretching or maintaining a posture, we rely on our understanding of symmetry, shapes, angles and lines.

This course will encourage you to explore your yoga practice through a maths lens in a simple and creative way. We use soft maths skills as we move and place the body in different positions, this helps to improve our alignment and understanding of the pose. For example, Trikonasana translates to mean Triangle pose - our understanding of this shape supports our practice.

This course will be as relaxing and calming as any other yoga course, each session ends with a deep relaxation practice. It may surprise you that we also use numeracy skills to support relaxation, for example counting the breath helps us to concentrate the mind and slow down our breathing.

You may want to progress to a longer yoga course to develop your practice but you may also consider developing your maths skills further with a Functional Maths Skills course.
