Course overview
Course description
This mat-based course will introduce you to a range of yoga practices including:
1. Foundational yoga poses that develop your flexibility, strength and balance
2. Basic breathing techniques that develop awareness of your breath
3. Introductory concentration techniques to focus your mind and encourage a calm, meditative state
4. A variety of relaxation techniques to release tension and help you feel calm
You will learn how to adapt these yoga poses and practices to suit your individual body's needs. One of the great things about yoga is that it can be adapted to a wide range of abilities.
You will learn with a friendly, experienced yoga tutor in a safe and mutually supportive class. There will be set Learning Outcomes which will enable you to recognise your progress and achievement.
After this yoga course, you can progress to the Intermediate Yoga course or choose other WEA yoga classes online or in your local community.
This is a mat based class, so learners need to be able to get up and down off the floor.
Learners will need to complete a health questionnaire and discuss any health issues with the tutor to ensure the class is suitable for them.
Learners will need to provide their own non-slip yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely. Extra layers of clothing and a blanket will provide warmth during relaxation. Sometimes blocks or yoga straps may be used but alternatives can be suggested.
