Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.
Course overview
Course description
During your 10-week course you will use the signs and symbols of Makaton working in small groups and with the support of your tutor. There are always visual guides to help you learn the techniques and handouts are always available to be taken home.
There is a Makaton book available to purchase at your course costing £20, which is a great asset to your learning. If you are in receipt of certain benefits or have a low household income there are support in place to help with the cost of the book. Please speak with your course tutor for more details.
Makaton can be used in various settings and a great way to up your skills or add to your CV. Makaton is used in schools, care homes and young babies, as it is a form of communication for those that cannot communicate verbally but able to hear. Makaton uses speech as well as signs, so not to be mistaken for British Sign Language which is communication for those that cannot hear.
This course is full of fun and enjoyable ways to learn including how to sign songs, basic communication in passing with someone or to be able to hold a conversation with someone talking about family and friends.
