Counselling Skills Practical – practicing skills in mini counselling sessions with other students

This course is for students to gain practical experience using counselling skills in a safe environment with other students. Each week focuses on a skill or combination of skills, using the ‘triad’ method (counsellor, client, observer) like mini counselling sessions, using the ten core counselling skills. Students might be beginners wanting to gain knowledge and practical experience of the main counselling skills, before attending an introduction course, or more experienced students who have already attended an introduction course or already have a qualification, either with WEA or with another training organisation, wishing to increase their practical experience. This course is a good starting point for anyone thinking of training or retraining as a counsellor, before taking a qualification, but would also be useful to anyone working or volunteering, dealing with the general public. Counselling skills put simply are communication skills so it is also suitable for anyone wanting to develop their listening skills, increase their self-awareness and personal development. Counselling is a good addition to your CV if you are currently applying for jobs.
