Course overview

A fun, educational course, which centres around the practical rudiments of learning to play musical instruments and write lyrics to original songs. This is the advanced course in a three - course sequence, although new students can be integrated into the learning. There will be rhythm playing, bass guitar tuition, song singing and writing. There will also be an opportunity for the learners to reflect on their learning in an interview.

Course description

The course will cover the following activities: playing a 'poly-rhythm' - each learner will be part of a drum workshop, where they play one rhythm when there are two other rhythms being played at the same time. This is a great group activity; writing the lyrics to original songs, where the learners write at least three lines of lyrics each over the course; playing a 'bass line' over a chord progression played on guitar, where there are six chords in the music; 'body percussion' - a seated activity, where parts of the body are tapped with the hands in a sequence, and the learners must remember the correct order. The learners will get the opportunity to suggest the steps and sequence - this activity also provides a little gentle exercise; and a course reflection interview, where the learners will be asked about what they enjoyed on the course, what it was like working with others, and how well they think they did.
