Course overview
Course description
On this 10-week, online course you will listen to, explore and enjoy a wide range of classical music from its earliest eras through to the present day. In a supportive learning environment, with like-minded people, you will engage with individual works discussing the circumstances of and reasons behind their creation, and evaluate the particulars of the sonic landscape they offer through genre, style, technique and arrangement. The course will also look at the life and background of each different composer; with the help of an informed tutor, you will also listen to and discuss examples of music from other genres such as jazz, film music, contemporary/neo/post-classical, ambient and electronic music, and world music - it is hoped that you'll take your new-found analytical skills back to your community. No experience is necessary for this course, just bring yourself and your enthusiasm!
