Course overview
Course description
William Wilkie Collins was the most Victorian of writers. Extravagant in his lifestyle and friend to many of the most significant figures of the day, he also produced a series of novels which added to the range of styles available to the modern writer.
Wilkie Collins was an English sensation novelist, early master of the mystery story, and pioneer of detective fiction. He produced a range of books and articles that have been rediscovered in the last 50 years as his work was overshadowed by his good friend Charles Dickens. But alongside a remarkable literary career, Collins had an extraordinary personal life which makes him an interesting subject for our talk.
