Course description
Join guest tutor Abbie Saunders on this interesting course examining a variety of avant-garde short stories by modern and contemporary Chinese writers. Each session will be spent producing a close analysis of individual stories and excerpts from longer fiction, debating different interpretations and understandings of the set texts, and situating them in an overview of the cultural and political contexts in which they were produced. Learners will develop confidence analysing short stories and demonstrate a basic understanding of avant-garde and experimental writing, as well as improving knowledge of modern Chinese culture and politics.
