Course overview
Course description
There is sometimes a mystique that goes along with a live theatre performance; it is a very ancient and international art form. This can sometimes be daunting for audience members; you may feel that there is a secret world that other people in the audience know all about. This course is for anyone who wants to break the theatre code, to know their stage left from their “vom” or their Naturalism from their Theatre of the Absurd and who would really like to feel fully informed about what it is that you are looking at.
Through the weeks we look at the layout of the theatre, touching on some of superstitions that surround it. We’ll look at classic examples of the different genres and give good advice about how to make your visit to the theatre unique, informed and positive. You will have the chance too, to share your own theatre visiting experiences and hopefully you have had the confidence to go to the theatre during the course with the support of your tutor. Depending on available opportunity we may even share a theatrical experience as part of your development as a member of an audience.
See you at the half!
