Course overview
Course description
Come and read Latin in a supportive and stimulating online course.
Reading Latin can provide a lifetime of enjoyment and this is a beginners’ course for students who have covered the grammar required for GCSE Latin and would now like to translate some of the world’s greatest literature.
To enjoy this course, you should have learnt basic Latin grammar: the formation of nouns and adjectives, verbs and participles, and know how to handle complex sentences and constructions. You will not be expected to remember everything: we shall consolidate grammar, as well as learning new skills, and you, the students, will help to choose what we revise.
In each session you will translate extracts from Latin literature, in particular Virgil’s Aeneid and Caesar’s Gallic Wars. You will support your learning and measure your progress through a variety of online quizzes and assignments with plentiful and encouraging feedback.
Although your goal is to read Latin independently, you will enjoy the social and intellectual contact of other people working with a shared purpose.. The course may be online – but you will soon feel as much part of the group as if you were in a room with them.
This is Latin for Pleasure!
