Course overview

Welcome to the French beginners course! Are you planning on going to France this year? Whether for business or holiday, you might want to be able to speak with the locals. This course will enable you to deal with everyday situations, including food, shopping, organising transport and hotel bookings…. You will also gain valuable insight into French life and culture with a native French speaker. All in a friendly and supportive environment. This course is aimed for those who already know how to greet, present themselves, say the time and give directions. A bientôt for your journey into the French language!

Course description

Learn to speak and understand some simple everyday French with a native French speaker and gain insight into French life, useful for business and leisure alike. You will cover basic "survival" French so you can deal with common situations such as shopping, booking a hotel room, and using different modes of transport. You will also discover the festive days in France which will take place during the summer term Learn to hold a simple conversation in the present tense in French, communicate and exchange information, use numbers in different contexts and practice some writing skills .

You will join a virtual classroom using a weblink via the video-conferencing tool Zoom. Resources and activities will be uploaded to Canvas to be used during and between lessons to enhance their interactive nature. The classes will take place with the whole group online and there will be opportunities to practice in pairs or small groups in breakout rooms. After each session you will be able to revise using Canvas.

This course is suitable for those who have a very basic grasp of the language including greetings, how to present themselves, tell the time, and give directions. It is a follow-up to a course which took place at the autumn term.

We don't want anything to stand in your way when it comes to bringing Adult learning within reach so if you need anything to support you to achieve your goals then speak to one of our education experts during your enrolment journey. Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
