Course description
New German (sometimes called ‘Young German’) era of filmmaking spanned from the 1960s into the 1980s, peaking throughout the1970s as a new generation of filmmakers, frustrated at what they felt was the stagnate of their national cinema - expressed themselves on screen as never before – several going on to have international careers to this day.
You'll examine the influences, motivations and themes within several of these films, considering their impact then and now: Alice in the Cities (1974), Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (1974), Fitzcarraldo (1982), The Enigma of Kasper Hauser (1974), Wings of Desire (1987)
