This is a course for anyone who enjoys cinema and would like to study the subject in more detail. We will focus on extracts from different areas of the world including the successful cinema of Hollywood, and a range of alternatives. Students will be introduced to different elements of film form and the contexts in which the films were made. Discussions will involve applying these ideas, as well as sharing reactions to the films. We will consider the meaning conveyed by selected extracts and relate this material to broader perspectives on cinema. The diversity of films means that students may well be introduced to new work alongside established classics.
This is a course for anyone who enjoys cinema and would like to study the subject in more detail.
