Course overview
Course description
This course will make use of a mix of informal feedback, lecture using PowerPoint slides, some focused group discussion/creative tasks in breakout rooms and feedback. We have all had that ear-worm playing in our heads all day after hearing a song on the radio - a song about something or someone that stirs us and gets us thinking creatively. Sometimes a film or a scene from a film has the same effect? Session by session we take inspiration from either a classic song or film (and there really is no need to have seen the film or heard the song before) apply some creative writing skills story structures and tricks and see where the story and our imagination takes us. Sometimes it is a simple case of what happens next? Or your chance to rethinking the situation – what if you feel he/she would never have said that? There is even scope to have added fund with some misheard lyrics/lines and we’ll cover how you might lay it out if you were to re-script a famous scene for yourself! We examine story, structure, characters and genre conventions we should adhere to or disregard. A course with something for the seasoned scribbler and/or the curious beginner.
