Across five sessions you consider how to engage with the consturction and development of character, explore narrative structure in relation to genre, and consider the relationship between dialogue and action. By the end of the course you will be supported to complete your own first draft short-film screenplay of ten to fifteen pages. Course description

This course will introduce you to the skills needed to write a short-film screenplay. It consists of five online sessions, each two hours long with a comfort break. The course will begin with three 'taught' sessions comprising of ideas about screenwriting and opportunities for you to discuss with the tutor the ideas being explored during the session.

During these sessions you will be able to identify how to format a short film screenplay and supporting documentation, engage with the construction and development of character, explore narrative structure in relation to genre, and consider the relationship between dialogue and action. The final two sessions of the course will be scheduled on a fortnightly basis to allow you to work on your first draft screenplays and engage with written feedback about your work in progress.

You'll be encouraged to engage in discussion of your work-in progress with other learners and with your course tutor. This gives you the opportunity to consider where you might want to send your work and make further connections with their writing and writing interests.
