Course overview

This course is to for you to enjoy developing your creative writing ability. The emphasis is on your individual development and fostering ability to assess your own work.. All forms are included – novels, plays, poems, short stories, autobiography, feature articles. We will have discussions on many aspects of writing with readings of work in progress in a friendly and constructive setting. We will also have writing projects during the class and suggested optional topics for the next session.

Course description

Enjoy developing and channelling your writing ability. All stages are welcome; beginners and improvers. Poetry, novels, short stories, plays, articles and memoirs are included. The emphasis is on individual development. We will discuss many aspects of writing skills. Topics included -

• getting started,

• shaping stories,

• writing poetry,

• creating characters,

• publication if desired

• Reading and discussion of members’ work in a friendly, constructive setting

• present some work in a chosen form by the end of term

Feedback on development of work in progress

Outcomes of Learning

1. Enjoy demonstrating development of writing skills

2. Write in a chosen form or variety of forms

3. Experiment with one or more forms

4. Demonstrate developing ability to assess your own work

5. Describe how to present work for publication, if desired

Essential materials e.g. books and equipment to be provided by the student

Just paper and pen or pencil and preferably work in progress to discuss, but not essential

Prior Knowledge: None, just interest in developing & enjoying your writing skills

Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
