Course overview
Course description
This art history course is aimed at anyone with an interest and enthusiasm for the Renaissance. It will be on Zoom where I will encourage lively and interesting debates about both the art, and the artists, from everyone. There will be a short introduction to the idea of the Italian Renaissance, and how the history of that era has so influenced the ideas that follow. We then study the lives and works of the most important High Renaissance artists: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarotti, Raphael Sanzio and Titian Vecelli. We shall discuss the impact these painters had, both at the short period that they were working, and afterwards. We shall also look at their influence upon each other and the rivalry this engendered, both between them and their followers. These discussions will help you achieve the learning outcomes below, but importantly, will enhance your understanding of this very seminal period in the development of Western art.
