Course description

For this visit, we will meet at Tate Britain and head off to the permanent collections, the “Walk through British Art” display.

Over the course of two hours, we will focus on modern art, from 1880 to 1960. This will take us from the naturalist paintings of George Clausen and William Stott of Odham to the unsettling works of Elizabeth Frink, Sutherland, and Francis Bacon created in the decade following the end of the Second World War.

Many other artists will be considered: Mark Gertler, Duncan Grant, Stanislawa de Karlowska, Gwen John, Eileen Agar, Winifred Nicholson, and more.

Tate Britain has several means of making the gallery more accessible, such as a parking space. Do get in touch before the outing if you would like more information. There is step-free access throughout the gallery, and portable seats are usually available – however please note that we will be standing and walking for 2.5 hours with a break.
