Course overview

Would you like to learn about art and at the same time practice your French? This course is for you! During five weeks, we will discuss a series of topics related to art and culture. The course aims to enrich your knowledge of art history, develop your French vocabulary, and boost your confidence when speaking French. Please see the longer description for a list of the themes we will study. The group will be small and the atmosphere relaxed and tolerant. Language skills: This is not a language course. To follow this course, it is desirable to have a good level in French. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Course description

Over five weeks, we will discuss a series of topics related to art and culture, and connected with France. The course aims to enrich your knowledge of art history, develop your French vocabulary, and boost your confidence when speaking French.

Each week we will focus on a specific theme:

- Qu’est-ce qu’un chef-d’œuvre ? Remise en cause d’un concept-clé de l’histoire de l’art [What is a masterpiece ? Challenging one art history’s key concept]

- Grandes femmes artistes françaises, d’hier et d’aujourd’hui [Great French women artists, then and now]

- Tour de France des musées d’art [An overview of French art museums]

- L’art contemporain en France : lieux, foires, artistes [Contemporary Art in France : places, fairs, and artists]

- A définir, selon vos souhaits ! [To be defined, based on your wishes] Resources will be made available to you on Canvas to prepare each session.

Language skills: This is not a language course. To follow this course, it is desirable to have a good level in French, especially in understanding spoken French, and developing skills in speaking French are OK. If and when necessary, English can be used a back-up. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What financial support is available?

We don't want anything to stand in your way when it comes to bringing Adult learning within reach so if you need anything to support you to achieve your goals then speak to one of our education experts during your enrolment journey. Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
