Course overview
Course description
Art Appreciation: Symbolism in Art delves into the Symbolist movement, examining how artists used symbols, allegory, and metaphors to express emotions, ideas, and spiritual themes. Participants will study works from key Symbolist artists, including Gustave Moreau, Odilon Redon, and Edvard Munch, exploring how their art reflected deeper psychological and philosophical concerns. The course covers the origins of Symbolism in the late 19th century, its influence on subsequent art movements, and its ongoing legacy in contemporary art. Through guided analysis and discussions, participants will learn how to interpret symbolic content in artworks and gain a greater appreciation for the movement's contributions to the visual arts. This course is ideal for anyone interested in understanding how artists use symbolism to convey complex ideas and emotions in their work.
