Course overview
Course description
Join us for a 2-week introduction to the world of sculpture, where we will explore how to look at, analyse, and interpret three-dimensional works of art. You will gain insights into key concepts such as mass, space and volume, texture, and movement, thus developing a deeper understanding of how sculptures communicate ideas and emotions. You will learn about key techniques (carving, modelling and assembling), and about the importance of materials. Examples will be diverse: Figurative works (like traditional statues and busts) and abstract; from monumental to miniature; classical, archaic, or modern. Whether you’re looking at ancient masterpieces or contemporary installations, this short course will help you engage with sculptures in a more meaningful way. It will provide you with concrete keys to use when looking at a 3-D work of art. No prior knowledge of art or sculpture is needed. Perfect for anyone seeking to enhance their appreciation of sculpture in all its forms.
