Art Appreciation: Leonardo Da Vinci: Artists and Inventor

This course will explore the vastly diverse creative output of Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. To define Leonardo as simply an "artist" would be to bypass his other talents as a draughtsman and inventor and much more. During this course you will have the opportunity to investigate the enigma of the iconic Mona Lisa painting, consider other portraits and his religious subjects, to explore his prolific output of drawings. Leonardo is as much an enigma as some of his work which leads to the ongoing fascination with him and his work. We will analyse examples of his portraits, and religious paintings, and also a range of his drawings and analyse their detail. Be prepared to discover more about this Renaissance master. The course is fully illustrated with plenty of opportunity for discussion throughout.
