Course overview
Course description
We look at fascinating and often beautiful paintings, prints and fabric designs made by Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden, Terza Garwood, Marianne Straube, Michael Rothenstein and other residents of the Essex village of Great Bardfield.
The artists in our course needed to make a living. They also valued all forms of artwork, for example working on commissions for London Underground as well as on one-off watercolours. The course focuses closely on images, also setting artists and artworks within the historical/social circumstances of the period covered by the course, c. 1930-1965. Your tutor will create a relaxed learning environment, encouraging questions and discussion. If you enjoy looking at art and art history this is the course for you.
