Course overview
Course description
The course will look at examples of fortifications that occur across Britain setting each in its historical setting. Class members will engage in analysing each fortification type seeking to explain how it functioned and how changes between different kinds of fortifications came about. The course will make use of a large number of photos and diagrams and is thus heavily visual. Teaching will be via exposition and discussion with questioning to the fore. Members will be encouraged to work in groups in order to carry out the analysis when possible. Local examples of fortifications will be highlighted to enable easy follow up.
