Course description

In 1914 the Tsarist regime was on its last legs. It had narrowly survived one revolution in 1905. It would not survive another. How and why did the Bolsheviks come to power? What did they do with that power once the regime had been consolidated? Is it fair to say that Lenin drove Russia into a blind alley and Stalin then floored the accelerator? How did Russia’s foreign policy in the period culminate in the disaster of German invasion in June 1941?
