Course overview
Course description
Ukraine is the largest country in Europe but has been almost unknown to Europeans until recently, which makes it difficult to fully understand the situation in the region of the military conflict. Studying Ukrainian literature, arts, music and traditions will help you comprehend the historical sources of the Ukrainian people’s attitudes and behaviour, their motives and personality traits.
What do the country’s landmarks and monuments tell us about its history? Who are Ukraine’s most popular writers, musicians and artists? How Ukrainian national features are revealed through the language, traditions, food and songs? These are the topics you will discuss in a very informal way, with the tutor who used to visit Ukraine in the past.
All the sessions are illustrated with PowerPoint presentations. You will get handouts with additional information, excerpts from literary sources and quizzes for your further research. This short introductory course could be a stepping stone on your way to discovering this beautiful country independently in more depth.
